3 Reasons to Join Delta SkyMiles

I haven’t always been a fan of Delta because of how expensive their flights are compared to other budget friendly domestic airlines (Southwest, Alaska). However, there are significant benefits and easy ways to earn Delta points (without booking flights).Anyway, these are my top reasons why you should open a SkyMiles rewards account so you can travel the world for $FREE.99.

1. SkyMiles never expire

I have a lot of rewards programs like United Mileage Plus & American Airlines AAdvantage that expire. That sucks. Unless you use those airlines or their affiliates every 24 months, your miles are basically worthless. But SkyMiles is a gem because even if I don’t use Delta consistently, I don’t have to worry about losing miles I’ve already earned.

2. You can earn miles without paying for flights

So this one is really cool because Delta has a lot of affiliates so let me break it down.

  • i. Lyft: Delta gives you 1 mile per $1 spent on Lyft which is amazing if you use Lyft a lot or even a little (since SkyMiles never expire). Catch me paying for all the lyfts when I go out with my homies.
  • ii. Starbucks: This is relatively new but it works the exact same way as Lyft. Just have to link Starbucks rewards and Delta SkyMiles account.
  • iii. SkyMiles Dining: This one is also really cool because you can get 1-2 miles on each dollar you spend at eligible restaurants in your area which is really cool. I go to a boba place regularly that is eligible for SkyMiles rewards so this is easy money guys!
  • iv. Hertz: I am not old enough to rent a car yet but when I am, I will hop on this as needed.
  • v. Airbnb: This is the last but definitely not the least. I am an avid Airbnb user and get 1 mile per $1 spent on Airbnb is a game changer.

3. Global Affliates: I like to use Delta for international trips to my home country in Africa – *your xoxo blogger has revealed a clue on her identity*. The fact that Delta goes directly to my home country is a big plus for me. I’ve had horrible experiences with using affiliates of American Airlines (British Airways) and I will not be using them again. British Airways, that is. Additionally, they have global affiliates that are actually good – service & reliability wise. So that is why SkyMiles is currently my fave.
