I hate small talk. Like, it is despicable to me. I spent a week training on creating & facilitating presentations in Utah for work. But I tried something new…
One of the icebreakers that I absolutely despise is “say 1 interesting fact about you”. I spend the whole mothafucking time trying to think of what everyone else would think is interesting. I never even pay attention to what other people say because I’m thinking of what would make me sound “interesting”.
For my presentation, I wanted to switch things up. I asked the group to give me 1 thing in the past week that gave them joy. What brought a smile to your face? It might be all the therapy and introspection for my MBA applications but joy is everything to me. Joy makes life worth living.
I spent most of my life feeling like the world was on my shoulders and it really isn’t. Taking life too seriously is something I no longer want to do. What are the small things that make life worth living?
Back to the presentation, the group loved it. Everyone was so happy just thinking and expressing what or who made them smile. It was beautiful to see. I was like should I trademark it lol? No… I know I’m probably not the one that came up with it. But I really want to know what makes people tick. I don’t care about a random interesting fact that we will most likely forget about.
What motivates you?
What gets you out of the bed in the morning?
What lights you up?
