How can you reach your minimum spend without spending more money than you need? It’s all about planning. Some factors to consider would be: large upcoming bills, regular monthly expenses, reimbursable expenses etc.
Here is a quick breakdown of how I’ve reached my minimum spend on the United without spending more money than planned.
| # | Line item | Total spent |
| 1 | Reimbursable work travel expenses (Apr) | $560 |
| 2 | Utilities (March-May) | $450 |
| 3 | Gas (March-April) | $130 |
| 4 | Canada trip – April | $450 |
| 5 | Canada trip – I’m venmo requesting my homies lol | $250 |
| 6 | GMAT take 4 | $275 |
| 7 | HSA reimbursable expenses | $60 |
| 8 | North Carolina trip (March) | $350 |
| 9 | Household items/Grocery | $475 |
- I accidentally left my work card home so I was able to use my own card to pay for expenses throughout the weeks I traveled. I had until June to meet minimum spend but this made it a lot faster.
- Utilities: I already pay for this. I just have to switch cards with every new hack.
- Gas: my gas was super low because I traveled almost all of April. My regular gas budget is typically $150 per month.
- Canada expenses: mostly food and vibes lol
- Canada part 2: this is from volunteering to pay everything and my obsession with receipts. My friends literally keep their receipts and give them to me because they know how happy I get.
- Yes I am going to take the GMAT exam again in June. Wish me luck.
- HSA reimbursable expenses: I wrote in Traveling the World for free thanks to my HSA about how to reimburse yourself using HSA. I still have free therapy sessions but for my next card, the HSA reimbursement will support my travel as well as my mental health π
- North Carolina Trip
- Household items/Grocery: slightly less than my regular budget because I traveled most of April
You don’t have to spend more to get these bonus points. This is just an example. I hope this breakdown helps.
