After my last 3 experiences using lounges at the airport during my Nigeria trip, I don’t think I can go back to the peasant life. I’m calling all of us that never use lounges – peasants! JK JK
Lounges have free meals and a comfortable quiet place to wait for your flight. Some lounges even have showers for those traveling crusty, musty 20 hour trips like me – San Francisco to Nigeria and vice versa. I stank and I knew I stank. I didn’t use the showers though but it was nice to know some of the lounges had those options.
The lounge was $FREE.99 by the way! Here’s how I got to live my best airport girly life on this trip.
- The United MileagePlus explorer card gives you 2 one time passes to the United Club lounge every year. The value of each pass is about $59. So it’s well worth the $95 annual fee that I paid for the card. I used the first pass in SFO for my 3 hours before the flight. I get to the airport early y’all. Still have never missed a flight. Then, I used the second pass for the 6 hour layover on the return flight.
- The Hilton Honors Surpass Card gives you a Priority Pass Select card. This gives you access to 10 visits to lounges across the world. You just have to search the airport you’re going and the Priority Pass app tells you which lounges will accept the card. Again, this is a perk of this specific credit card. I know there are other credit cards that offer Priority Pass as well. It also cost me $95 annually to pay for this card. I will happily pay this fee if it means I never have to sit in the HELL that is the Nigerian airport gate. I got to live like a king. I got a whole plate of Jollof Rice & Chicken with plantain and drinks at the Oasis Lounge in Lagos. I ran into family friends too (I can never be incognito in Lagos).
I tried using the Priority Pass again at BOS airport but there was a waitlist for the Chase Sapphire Lounge there. I didn’t check the app enough so by the time I got to the lounge, I had 30 minutes till my flight departure. I opted for the peasant life on that one because 30 mins would have been a waste.
Those are the two ways I know about getting Lounge access for free so far. If you know of some other ways, let me know in the comments.
