Get Delta Amex Gold card!

Welcome to the beginning of my credit card review series. For those new to the blog, in 2023, I’ve opened 6 credit cards and saved over $4000 on 6 trips this year (Canada, Pittsburg, Boston, North Carolina, Japan & Nigeria).

My first card recommendation is the Delta Amex Gold. For the first credit card to get in your journey to travel hacking, I actually recommend the Chase Gauntlet of cards.

But I already got some of the major Chase card bonuses in the past few years, so I’m focusing on reviewing my current credit cards. Note that you want to open this card once you’ve exhausted opening Chase travel credit cards (because those are the best). Remember the rules of travel hacking from Traveling the World for FREE.99.

I love the Delta Amex card because I patronize Delta. You can sign up with my referral link if interested. With all my hacks for how to get Skymiles, I earn a considerable amount of Delta points throughout the year. Traveling with Delta has been my best travel experience of all US airlines.

Let’s talk perks of the card:

  1. As of September 2023, spend $2000 within 6 months and earn 40,000 miles (can be redeemed for a domestic flight in US or a flight to Europe if you buy early enough)
  2. Save an extra 15% when you book flights with miles (e.g. if total trip costs 40,000 miles, you actually pay 34,000 miles)
  3. 2 miles per $1 for all grocery shopping & delta purchases
  4. 1 mile per $1 for all other purchases
  5. If you spend $10,000 on the card throughout the calendar year, you get an additional $100 e-credit. There is a $99 annual fee for the card but with the e-credit, it pays for itself.

The cons:

  1. Annual fee: $99 but as I mentioned, the $100 delta e-credit makes up for it to me.

If you end up getting the card, let me know what you think about it. DM me @genzfirebaby on Instagram.
