I wrote about joining Forte earlier this year when I broke down the cost of Pre-MBA programs. I joined 2 pre-MBA programs to meet like-minded people in the MBA application process. Also, I wanted to get resources on making the best application possible and to network with admissions officers.
This application process taught me that having a few admissions officers know you before you apply doesn’t hurt. It can only increase your chances if they can vouch for your character behind closed doors instead of another prospective student they might not have met.
Forte is geared toward increasing female representation in MBA programs – ultimately increasing female business leaders. I enjoyed the program. It took 9 months (I finished last month) but was not too time-intensive. We had weekly 1-hr webinars and some mandatory forums to attend. But they always had virtual options, which was good for my wallet since I live in Nowhere, CA.
I also met some fantastic girlies in the process. We had monthly calls to assess our progress and review each other’s work. I would say that I wish there was more group participation in my cohort, but the few girls who showed up became my homies.
I was initially hesitant to join Forte because I didn’t see the value in doing both Forte and MLT, but I had a good time and met great people. It is definitely a cost-effective way of navigating the hectic MBA application process. However, if you know you absolutely want to get into an Ivy or a top 5 business school, you might be better off paying for an admissions consultant (which is $$$$) or doing the MLT program (if you are Black, Latinx or Native American).
Now, I don’t know if being part of this program will improve my chances of getting the Forte Fellowship – a full tuition scholarship that most partner schools offer. But, I’m hopeful regardless. Let’s go to school for FREE.99.
I will repeat aloud and confidently – ‘I am going to school for FREE.’ This is part of my daily affirmations and manifestations. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers for scholarships.
