Saying yes to lifestyle inflation

I’m writing this after my first full week at new job. It had an 856 days sabbatical from quitting my old job in middle of nowhere CA to getting my MBA to a new job in NYC baby! The purpose of this post isn’t deep. I wanted to talk about all the things I’m excited to spend money on when I finally have money. I get my first paycheck in 2 weeks so I’m so excited to pay off my credit cards (I had to put this month’s rent and last month’s non-rent expenses on my credit cards).

I’ve cut my expenses to the bone since starting business school and in the 3 months of unemployment after I graduated. Now, it’s time for some long overdue and reasonable (to me) lifestyle inflation. I used to take pride in being ultra frugal but now I’m a huge supporter on spending on what I value. Life is short, you gotta live. It’s the only life you got so you gotta live it big time (BTR reference IYKYK).

So here are some things I’m excited to spend money on:

  1. ClassPass: I started a free trial in August and decided to pay for it even before my job started. I’ve decided I want to look like Teyana Taylor and there’s no going back.
  2. Clothes: In my old job, I never had to think about what I was wearing everyday because we had uniforms. Since quitting, I’ve been experimenting a lot with my personal style and I’m always on the lookout for outfits that scream my name (sexyy). I also don’t go shopping that often so I don’t think I’ll blow a lot of money on clothes. Last week, I got culottes and barrel pants from Uniqlo and I’m excited to style & wear those. My new job dress code is smart casual which works perfectly for me haha.
  3. Laser: for my armpits & maybe my face hyperpigmentation if a dermatologist gives me the ok. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do if I had money.
  4. A monthly maintenance budget: Last year, I started spending on getting my hair braided. I would like to expand that to the occasional manicure and pedicure. Although, I’m a bit worried that it would fuck up my nails. I also want to get regular Brazilian waxes and maybe a massage here and there.
  5. Travel: No explanation needed. I am a woman of the world.
  6. Luxury bag: Mostly want to get one for my mom because she’d appreciate it and I feel like I also want to thank her for always believing in me (& love I guess). For myself though, I got a small cute $130 Kate Spade bag today actually because I wanted a little bit of luxury and something I can use for going out/weddings etc. FB marketplace also has a lot of great options that I might explore in the future once I have more than $0 in my savings account eventually.

I’m sure I’ll have more stuff I want to spend on but that’s it for now.
